eToro · UK service decisions · Checked 10 October 2026

One eToro interface can contain several different agreements

Before copying a portfolio, using an AI tool or moving cash into the GBP account, identify the service you are actually authorising. The trading company, payment account and hosted crypto wallet have different roles. A programme badge and an FCA reference number do not settle every product's permissions or protection.

Scope: UK-facing company documents and official FCA and FSCS sources. The English-language site also serves other jurisdictions; this UK review does not establish your residency eligibility. No account, payment, copied trade, agent connection or professional application was tested.

The historical 77 score has not been fully reassessed. It does not certify all group licences, AI performance or a personal compensation entitlement.

Start with the company and the particular service

The actual FCA record identifies ETORO (UK) LIMITED, FRN 583263, company number 07973792, as Authorised since 9 May 2013. It separately shows MLRs Registered since 14 January 2022 and says the firm can hold and control client money. Those entries describe different regulatory roles.

The UK terms published 12 August 2026 name both eToro UK and eToro Europe as service providers. Clauses 3.1–3.5 allocate trading, copying and securities custody to UK, ordinary crypto custody to Europe and staked-crypto custody to UK. UK acts as agent, normally arranging execution with Europe, while reserving other executing brokers. Copying has a suitability assessment distinct from complex-product appropriateness.

Keep a small service record: the company on the accepted agreement, account identifier, product schedule and the party holding the asset or cash. Ask the firm to identify any activity restriction relevant to your intended use. This review establishes limited UK identity and displayed status; it is not an audit of every permission or the Australian entity.

The register contains clone notices. A matching FRN, logo or AI-themed message is not enough to authenticate a sender. Check contact details against the genuine record. A notice about an impersonator does not mean the genuine company has offered that impersonator's product.

A GBP payment balance is not the same claim as an investment shortfall

The company's general protection page uses broad language about all users and compensation. It also says its listed banks do not serve every group entity. Do not turn that marketing summary into a promise that every balance or cryptoasset is compensated.

A portfolio falls in market valueFSCS does not compensate poor investment performance.Separate price loss from a custody shortfall or alleged service failure.

FSCS's own investment guidance requires both an authorised provider and a regulated service or product. Its limit is a maximum subject to eligibility, not a trading-loss allowance.

The GBP account page says UK-resident services use safeguarding rather than the UK depositor scheme. GBP trade funding is being rolled out gradually; closing positions to GBP is not available in every region. Seeing several accounts in one Wallet tab does not make them one legal account.

The FCA's payment-provider guidance explains that safeguarding differs from FSCS protection. Recovery after failure can take time and administrator costs may reduce the amount returned. Confirm which provider held the funds at the relevant time; an internal transfer confirmation is a useful record of that change.

The catalogue lists Money UK terms effective 1 June 2026, but their substantive text could not be retrieved reliably for this review. Obtain your accepted version before relying on a payment-specific deadline or liability clause. This page does not certify the current private-insurance policy or your eligibility under it.

Separate an AI explanation from permission to place trades

The Tori page describes an informational assistant using portfolio, activity and conversation history. It says generated answers can be inaccurate or incomplete and are not investment advice. It also promotes creating an Agent Portfolio through conversation. A useful answer is not evidence that a strategy is suitable, profitable or ready to execute.

The 26 March 2026 Agent Portfolios announcement describes a gradual rollout: a dedicated sub-portfolio, a user-chosen budget and a scoped API key. A connected agent can open and close positions and inspect balances within that portfolio. That is a materially different authority from reading an explanation. The announced minimum is not confirmation of your account's eligibility.

Before granting an agent access

  1. Identify the permission. Ask what the key allows, which portfolio it controls, and whether the available permissions match what you intend. Keep secret credentials out of public posts and conversations.
  2. Record the boundary. Write down the capital allocation, intended instruments and the conditions under which you want automation stopped. Confirm how the platform actually enforces any limit; an instruction in a conversation is not proof of enforcement.
  3. Plan the exit. Confirm separately how to revoke access, stop future instructions and handle existing positions or pending orders. Ask what remains after pausing. Neither the public article nor this review is a live test of those controls.

A company announcement and illustrative strategy are not independently verified results. This review did not install a trading skill, create an API key or connect an agent. CopyTrader is another automation route with its own agreement and suitability process; an AI interface does not remove those checks.

Pro Investor and Professional Client answer different questions

The Pro Investor programme concerns being copied and receiving programme benefits. Its page says payments begin at Champion tier and are linked to assets under copy, with conditions. Assets under copy measure money following the participant; they are not the participant's profit or a copier's realised return.

For a prospective copier, the useful question is how the leader is paid and how the portfolio behaves when markets fall. Record the measurement period, equity, exposure and drawdown alongside any displayed return. A programme badge, sponsored qualification or large audience does not establish a personal adviser relationship or guarantee a result. This review has not verified any individual participant's performance or qualification.

The separate Professional Client page concerns regulatory classification. It requires assessment and at least two of three criteria: significant relevant-market transactions averaging ten per quarter over four quarters; an investment portfolio exceeding EUR 500,000; or a relevant financial-sector role for at least a year. Meeting a displayed threshold is not approval.

That page says professional accounts lack negative balance protection and losses can exceed deposits. Its ICF references should not be treated as an answer to every UK FSCS question. Obtain the written classification and protection warning for your actual company and product before changing status. Joining a commercial programme does not itself prove that this regulatory reclassification has occurred.

Read the instrument label and both sides of the cost

The current fees page distinguishes cash securities, CFDs, crypto and futures. Some non-leveraged stock or ETF BUY positions can still be CFDs because of product restrictions; the trade screen identifies a CFD. The same page now describes Stock Margin as borrowing while retaining ownership, so a generic slogan about every leveraged purchase is insufficient. Check the actual ticket, service availability and agreement.

CFD opening and closing charges are described as separate debits from available cash, alongside market spread and possible overnight financing. Copying does not erase the underlying positions' charges. Stock commissions have product and service exceptions, while crypto tiers distinguish manual trades from copied portfolios. Futures fees are labelled beta and subject to regional availability.

  1. Before opening: save the instrument, BUY or SELL, underlying asset or CFD label, quantity, leverage or borrowing arrangement, and estimated costs.
  2. After execution: compare the fill and separately debited charges with the estimate. Record currency conversion and any financing rather than examining only the displayed entry price.
  3. Before closing or transferring: ask which closing, conversion, wallet or network charges apply. Keep a sale, cash withdrawal and asset transfer as separate instructions.

The UK hosted-wallet terms updated 27 January 2026 say the provider controls the private keys. Supported assets and networks can change. They also describe conditional transfers back into a trading account, subject to eligibility and different terms after receipt. Do not assume an old one-way-transfer description remains complete, or that an available button establishes universal transferability.

Obtain the supported asset, network, destination and applicable fees before initiating a transfer. This review did not test settlement, blockchain delivery, availability of return transfers or any personal total cost.

Preserve records for the service that caused the issue

When asking for help, distinguish a copied order, a manually placed order, an agent instruction, a fiat payment and a crypto transfer. Each needs a different trail. The UK terms route complaints to the relevant service provider; a shared brand is not enough to identify that provider.

  • For trading: keep the accepted company, product and classification, order and position identifiers, timestamps, estimated cost, execution and cash debits.
  • For copying or agents: add the chosen portfolio, allocation, consent and any pause, stop or revocation record. Preserve what you requested and what the platform confirmed as separate events.
  • For payments or custody: retain the source and destination account, asset and network, transaction reference, accepted terms and the provider's written explanation.

The legal catalogue also lists separate hosted-wallet and Builders' Economy documents. The latter's text was not retrieved reliably here. Do not infer API availability, developer rights or liability solely from an announcement. No complaint or external request was submitted in this review.

Questions to resolve before acting

Does an FCA reference protect every service under the brand?

No. Check the particular company, activity and product. The register separates authorisation from MLR registration, and FSCS eligibility is conditional.

Does Pro Investor mean I have a professional trading account?

It is a programme label. Professional Client classification requires its own assessment and written confirmation, with changes to protection.

Does pausing an AI tool guarantee my existing positions are closed?

This review has not tested that behaviour. Confirm what the control stops, whether orders remain pending and how existing positions are handled before granting trading authority.

Official sources support limited UK identity and general scheme rules. Provider documents describe service arrangements. Full activity restrictions, group enforcement history, personal contracts, payment/API clauses not retrieved, current insurance, live controls and individual recovery outcomes remain unverified.
